Data Quality and Governance
Making sure the data a digital bank runs on is defined, monitored and trusted before it ever reaches production.
Context
MariBank is a digital bank, so almost everything it does runs on data - and when a data element is wrong, it surfaces as a customer complaint, a broken report, or a compliance risk. The Data Governance team, which sits under Information Security, works between the business and the engineering teams to make sure the data that matters is properly defined and continuously monitored, rather than being checked only after something has already gone wrong.
What I worked on
Whenever a new service is being scoped, I partner with the business and engineering teams to identify the business-critical data elements involved and pin down the data-quality requirements for each of them before launch. From there I design and validate the data-quality checks in UAT, then deploy them into the production pipelines so those metrics keep being monitored continuously as new services go live. A good chunk of the role is reactive too. I investigate data-quality incidents surfaced by automated monitoring and by customer-service escalations, liaising across business and tech teams to trace root causes and drive them to resolution. I'm also working on making the team's existing processes more efficient - building self-service tooling that lets business teams query the master and reference data inventory themselves instead of filing a request, and tuning the data-access checks so they raise far fewer false-positive alerts.
